What You Need to Rent a Boat in Finland
To rent a boat, you need:
- Age: Minimum age to operate a boat is 18 years.
- Documents: ID, passport, or other valid identification.
- Deposit: A security deposit of €500 is required. The deposit is refunded upon return of the boat without damage.
Do I need a boat licence to rent in Finland?
In Finland, no license is required to operate private recreational boats up to 24 meters in length, provided you have sufficient skills and experience.
However, the operator must be at least 15 years old and possess adequate skills and experience to navigate the boat safely.
In practice, an official license is not mandatory, but the rental provider may ask for proof of your competence for your own safety.
How much does it cost to rent a fishing boat in Finland?
Boat rental prices vary depending on the type of boat, engine power, and rental duration:
- Boats with engines up to 20 HP: from €100 to €180 per day.
- Boats with 30 HP engines: from €150 to €250 per day.
Additional fees apply for fuel, extra equipment, and other options.
What is included in the rental price?
Every rental from Suomi-Fishing includes full equipment (fishfinder, GPS electric motor, safety gear), full insurance, fuel for the first tank, and delivery + retrieval by our team.
Fishing gear, LiveScope, and fishing licence are optional add-ons.
What is the minimum rental period?
The standard minimum is 5 days. In select cases, 4-day rentals are possible - ask us when you request a quote.
How much does it cost to rent a boat with a fishing guide?
The cost of renting a boat with a fishing guide depends on the rental duration. On average, fishing guide services in Finland range from €490 for 4 hours to €1000 per day (8 hours).
Is it possible to rent fishing gear and equipment?
Yes, renting fishing gear is available for €100 per person (minimum set for 2 anglers). The set includes rods for various fishing styles, lures, a landing net, tools, scales, and a fish box. The contents of the set can be agreed upon in advance.
What are the payment and booking terms for the boat?
Payment and cancellation terms:
- A 30% deposit of the total cost is required at the time of booking.
- The remaining balance must be paid no later than 3 weeks before the rental start date.
- Payment can be made via bank transfer or online card payment.
Booking confirmation is sent upon receipt of payment.
In case of cancellation, the deposit is non-refundable. However, rescheduling the boat rental for another period is possible by agreement.
How does the deposit work?
A €500 security deposit is held during the rental period. After inspection on return with no damage found, the deposit is refunded in full. In the event of equipment failure caused by us, we'll either send a replacement boat or refund the unused portion.
Can you deliver outside the 200 km radius?
Yes, for longer distances contact us for a custom quote. Delivery is available anywhere in Southern Finland provided there is a suitable launch site and secure dock at your location.
TERMS
We deliver boats directly to your chosen location and provide guidance on their use. To maintain the quality of our service, rentals have a minimum duration of five days. Renters must have access to a suitable mooring spot, such as a private or rental cottage; we do not provide boats for use at public docks or marinas.
A transportation charge, calculated by distance, will be added to the rental cost. Contact us for a destination-specific quote.
All boat transport, launching, and retrieval are handled exclusively by us due to the specialized knowledge and experience these tasks require.
Each rental includes full insurance. In case of damage, a deductible of €500 applies.
If your rental is cut short due to damage caused by you, no refund will be issued.
If equipment failure interrupts your trip, we will either supply a replacement vessel when possible or refund the unused portion of the rental.
Boats are supplied fully fueled (98-octane gasoline) and clean and must be returned in the same condition. Otherwise, refueling and cleaning fees will be charged.
Previous boating experience is required to rent boats with engines of 20 HP or more.
The boats come fully equipped with all necessary boating and safety equipment. A fishfinder and chartplotter make locating fish and navigation easier. For convenience, there is an electric MotorGuide bow motor for trolling along the shoreline and setting a GPS anchor. For more experienced anglers, a LiveScope system can be installed.
